Human Endothelial Progenitor Cells (EPCs)
Endothelial Progenitors Cells (EPC) are immature cells present in blood with the physiological role of maintaining vascular integrity. They are derived from bone marrow then enter the blood, where they constitute a rare population of cells. They are integrated in the formation of new vessels, for example during the process of revascularization following a vascular lesion. In culture, these cells form colonies of endothelial cells, quickly acquiring a strong power of proliferation and a typical cobblestone morphology.
Abcell-bio offers Endothelial Progenitors Cells (EPCs) isolated from human umbilical cord blood.
The number of EPCs in umbilical cord blood is 10 times higher than in adult peripheral blood and have a higher proliferation rates than HUVECs (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells). They express all the classic endothelial cell markers (CD31, CD144, KDR, vWF). Our EPCs are derived from a single, healthy donor.
EPCs are tested for the specific markers of endothelial cells, such as CD31, CD144, KDR and vWF. The expression of these markers is analyzed by Flow Cytometry and Immunohistochemical Labeling. Abcell-bio also evaluates the specific endothelial functions of each batch of EPCs, such as the ability to incorporate acetylated LDL or the potential expression of activation molecules (ICAM-1, VCAM- 1). These cells are able to form capillary-like structures on Matrigel® reflecting their angiogenic capacity. EPCs produced by Abcell-bio are cryopreserved in FBS-10% DMSO and provided at passage 2 or 3 after thawing. Virologic (HIV1/2, HBV, HCV) and mycoplasma detection tests are performed on all batches. A full certificate of analysis is provided for each batch of EPCs ordered.
